When Ronit first came to Mumbai, he lived and worked with Subhash Ghai as an assistant director. Then he started modeling and did a few commercials. He even tried his hand at being a freelance editor and turned director for 25 episodes of Chitrahaar on Doordarshan. The multi talented Roy hit the silver screen with Jaan Tere Naam, in 1992 and the film was a hit. However, even though he acted in 30 films in 10 years, stardom and success eluded him. It was only when he turned to the small screen that he finally found his niche and became one of the biggest names on TV. Today he is best known for the characters he plays in two TV soaps, Mihir Virani in Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi and Rishab Bajaj in Kasautii Zindagi Kay. The way people have responded to his portrayal of Bajaj and Mihir is unprecedented. He is the highest paid television soap opera actor in India today.
